Providing a Safe Space for Residents of All Ages to Engage in Healthy Recreational Activities While Building Community

The Recreation and Parks (RPD) Peace Parks initiative activates park properties in key neighborhoods with positive programming.  The initiative works closely with 18-25 year old neighborhood residents to increase how safe youth feel, increase how many youth use parks for healthy activities, and support relationships between community members, police, and RPD employees.

Peace Parks serves participants through a variety of programs, including:

  • Sports and Fitness Training
  • Cooking and Nutrition
  • Job Readiness/Entrepreneurship Classes
  • Cosmetology Program
  • Dance Classes
  • And More!

62% of participants attend Peace Parks 3 days a week as programs are run Thursday – Saturday evenings.

  • 6 families received housing through the program at Youngblood Coleman
